A different kettle of fish


This expression sounds like a very bizarre English recipe. However the explanation of it has nothing to do with food. When an Englishman says: “That’s a different kettle of fish”, he just refers to two alternative things all together. For example: “My wife is a great baker, but her cooking: that’s a different kettle of fish”. Apparently this Brits wife is great at making pies, but a bit less at preparing a meal. Although I hope this man realizes that women also have talents outside of the kitchen.
